On the 6 June 1944, the words "The long sobs of autumn violins wound my heart with a monotonous languor," were heard on the BBC. These lines from a poem by Verlaine announced the imminent D-Day landings to the French Resistance.

After the landings, the battle continued....

Especially around the Chambois-Falaise Pocket, in a small town that was to have a very special status allowing it to retain its heritage..: none other than Bagnoles de l'Orne.
