Mont St Michel

At the border of Brittany and Normandy, the Mont Saint-Michel is a granite island dominated by a medieval abbey. It was one of the first sites listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site and is one of teh most instantly recognisable sites in France.
It overlooks a wide bay famous for its tides - "faster than a galloping horse" - and quicksand.
